Lions have served in Massachusetts since 1920.
The Boston Lions continue that tradition of service.
We Serve for a Better World.
1920
In 1920, The first Lions Club was chartered in Boston. From the beginning, Lions have served the Boston community to meet local needs and extend aid around the world.
Lions in Boston
Today, there are six Lions clubs in the city of Boston: Boston Host Lions, Charlestown Lions, Boston Chinatown Lions, Hyde Park Lions, Boston University Eye Associates Lions, and New England College of Optometry Lions.
A Mission of Service
The LIONS motto is “We Serve.” For the Lions of Boston this motto has meant a dedication to serving the community in many ways, great and small, locally and globally. Our local and global service initiatives are described here.
Service for a Better World
Lions strive to change lives for the better and by changing lives, they change communities and by changing communities, they change the world. Since 1925, Lions have been at the forefront of aid to the blind and the development of vision health programs around the world. Today that mission of service includes core causes of vision, diabetes, childhood cancer, child development, environmental preservation, hunger, disaster relief, and humanitarian aid.
Local is Global; Global is Local
The Lions of Boston have served in the neighborhoods of Boston in many roles. They have been joined in their efforts by the Lions of the World through the Lions Clubs International Foundation, the humanitarian organ of Lions International.
A Unique Place
Boston is a unique place in the world. Since their founding, Boston and Massachusetts have been leaders in innovation, education, justice, philanthropy, and civic responsibility. The Lions embrace, strengthen, and continue that tradition.
